UK Bookselling
The Magic Light of Success Shines on Julian H. Lewis
Identifying potentially profitable books in advance of (or shortly following) their release can be a risky game, and Claire realizes that nobody can always get this right, let alone predict the next Harry Potter. Nevertheless, it'll be fun keeping score in the coming months, and we at BookThink wish her and you the best of luck - continuing this week with her second recommended title, Julian H. Lewis's The Magic Lantern of Kimbustan. Read why Claire chose this book in her article "UK Bookselling: The Magic Light of Success Shines on Julian H. Lewis."

Make MySpace Your Space
for Promoting Your Bookselling Business
And Become a BookThink Friend
I recently had the pleasure of reading Steve Weber's new book,
Plug Your Book! In it Steve devotes
an entire chapter to how to market, among other things, a book you've
authored – and "among other
things" necessarily includes promoting your bookselling business –
on MySpace. If you're harboring
a notion that MySpace is nothing more than a meeting place teeming with
hormone challenged
teenagers, let me take this opportunity to disabuse you of it. MySpace
is fast becoming an
unusually effective tool for business networking – including
bookselling. Consider joining today
and becoming one of BookThink's MySpace friends.

BookThink's Top 10 on eBay
March 2007
March 2007 came and went with eBay fiction sales turning distinctly domestic. No UK sellers showed up at all, though an Australian and a Canadian made valiant attempts to fill the vacuum left by the precipitous departure of UK listings on eBay US. Meanwhile, King and son wrapped up 4 of the fiction slots. As if that wasn't enough, there were 3 separate ties totaling 6 titles in the mix.

Report From Beginnersville
The Adventures of a Clueless Bookseller
A new column launches today - "Report from Beginnersville: The Adventures of a Clueless Bookseller." Unlike BookThink's other columnists, Brenna Hopkins cheerfully confesses that she's clueless when it comes to bookselling. She's also brave: She's committed to learning the business and willing to let you watch her do it, showing us all the inevitable failures - and hopefully successes.
