French Style: How to Think, Shop, and Dress Like a French Woman
Professor Henry Higgins had it all wrong in My Fair Lady. He tried to take a Cockney flower girl and transform her into somebody who could pass as a proper English lady by way of voice lessons, instruction in etiquette, etc. - oh, and by putting her in a fancy dress. All superficial things, slathered on like so many layers of paint, and none of them made her a lady. Why? Because Higgins continued to treat her like a flower girl. It was Higgins' friend, Colonel Pickering, who treated her like a lady from the outset, and ultimately it was this that ultimately made it all happen as planned.
