ARCs and Amazon

We have all known that Amazon did not allow the sale of promotional copies, including Advanced Reader’s Editions (Arcs), also known as Uncorrected Proof Copies. This restriction actually made sense - since they bear the same ISBN as the final hardcover to come, they were being offered by clueless sellers amongst the hardcover listings.

But it did provide a dilemma for the antiquarian, or even occasionally antiquarian book dealer, because ARCs can be very collectible. The value, of course, will depend on the usual factors of - scarcity, desirability, and condition.

Now, approved sellers of Collectible Books at Amazon have the drop down option of ‘advance copy’ as a distinguishing feature in listing their copy in the Collectible category.
